dance is life
It sounds so clear/obvious that I don't understand why I repeat it: dance is life! You don't believe me? Let's take an average baby as an example. Most often, before he turns one year old, they have already tried to dance, even if only by nodding their heads. As soon as they stand a little on their legs, they bend their knees in rhythm... No one really taught them how to do it. Just like everything else that is fundamental to their survival: breathing, sucking, crying or doing in their diaper. As far I know there is no ethnic group or community (just off the beaten track) that doesn't dance. Dance supports every moment of your life in one way or another. Just think about it, there is probably very few animals that don't dance either.... This little dance step between the bowl and shower in the morning to a tune on the radio, this nuptial or lascivious dance to try to conquer the one chosen by your heart (without going so far as to talk about Salome who managed to have the head of St John the Baptist but we will perhaps talk about it again), your wedding opening dance, when jumping with joy in the streets when your favorite team won the World Cup, the samba of the carnival, religious dances like in voodoo, the ball of rhetoric or beginners, the popular ball or firemen... We add this little head movement on the bus while listening to your favorite music? Come on, let's be crazy. Similarly, some people's gait can be very easily associated with the movement you would do by undulating on jazzy music.... What about the bad times? The worst moments of your life are often accompanied by orderly movement: arms raised to heaven or curled up on you. It's not really dance, I agree, but it is movement that you find in many modern choreographies - hence the link with the subject even if it is improbable. When I tell you that dancing is life... Naturally, everyone dances! Well OK I wavy sometimes but it stops there and never on the dance floor. I don't like to dance (for many personal reasons I'd be happy to talk about over a drink but not here) but I love to photograph the dance. Nope – This is not that contradictory. I don't know anyone who puts as much grace into a movement as a dancer. I don't know anyone who masters her body better than a dancer, who doesn't have a better knowledge of the position in space of each part of her body... Each movement is most often round, energetic or sometimes both at once. Each movement or pose shows something. Well, I'm stopping the list because you're going to think I'm in love with a dancer. If in addition, we say that it could be redheaded (for those who have been following me for a long time), it will talk because I know a hyper-photogenic one for the time being - but we will talk about photogenic later. Well, for me, dance is the best representation of sound. When I look at pictures of dancers, I see, and I will throw them at you in a tuft, without putting them in bouquets (as Edmond Rostand said through Cyrano's mouth in the balcony scene), the air, the wind, the sound, the silence, the movement, the static, the blood in the veins, the joy, the strength, the wisdom, the fire, the earth, the sweetness, the music, the rhythm, the writing, the communication, the tenderness, the pain, the beauty, that mail that will never be answered, the Stars, the river that flows through nature, the tumultuous river that flows into the sea, the trees that sing in the wind, that fern that grows between two bricks, that ray of sunlight through the jealousies of the room, that drop of water that is created on the kitchen window while the meal is cooked, that kite floating in the wind, those children fighting, that person reading that novel under that willow tree, that person felling a tree in the heart of a forest, that car splashing a passer-by while driving a little too fast, that bird taking off, that coffee percolating, that clock ticking in its corner, that first love never forgotten, that little tear that points in front of a film with rose water, that tightness in the heart for a friend who left too quickly, that wave with a soul that takes you for no reason, that phone that rings in the void, that red balloon that flies away, that slide where you used up your panties, that refreshing drink during a hot day, that package that doesn't arrive, the poetry... I’m telling you that dance is life ! To make short through the grace and movement expressed by the dancer, it is up to you to follow him/her in this story he tells you or to put your own emotions into it... About stories to follow or emotion to capture (or not), it is the same for the music or songs I agree. But when I shoot a dance performance or a dancer, I have the impression that this movement is still felt, I have the impression that by capturing this moment, I am capturing with him everything that it contained. And this is not necessarily the case when I take concert photos for example.... So, by sharing these photos with you, I feel like I'm sharing this moment of emotion with you...But they are baby lol
And so ? What about you ?
Yes, but dance? What does it represent?
Is not most clear !
