sharing & credits
To summarise, photographic credits guarantee respect for intellectual property. This notion appeared in the late 1960s consists in attributing the work to its author, i.e. indicating his name (and/or referring to his site or a page on social networks)
The Intellectual Property Code guarantees the author the right to respect his name, his position and his work.
I invite you to visit this page for more information about rights.
Can I use pictures for free?
Pictures are presented based on the Creative Commons international licence 4.0 summarised as “Attribution [= photographic credits] – Non-Commercial - No Derivatives”
. By no means, pictures can be considered as free of rights or royalty-free.
Therefore, the license above may not give you all the permissions necessary for a different use than sharing including photo credit. Some rights such as publicity, privacy or moral rights may limit how you use the material especially when the subject of the picture is someone.
Thanks to contact me if you want to get out the (legal) framework.
Why do I need to attribute pictures?
- If you like my photos enough to share them, I imagine that you have no problem to help your friends/acquaintances to discover the rest of this wonderful collection.
- As well, if you are happy of the result of our shooting, why don't you make me happy by saying that the picture is mine.
- This could also facilitate people to find me easily
- Finally, a lot of European and non-European laws and treaties on intellectual property force/compel to mention the author.
But in practice? How does it look?
Ideally, you should use something like Courtesy of laurent ‘cosmic’ henneaux [smilecollector.photos]
.
But the below is acceptable too:
- to refer only to the website : https://smilecollector.photos or smilecollector.photos
- to refer to one of my pages on social networks
- fb page - shootings : https://www.facebook.com/smlcol.f2f / @smlcol.f2f
- instagram : https://www.instagram.com/smlcol / @smlcol
- fb page - events : https://www.facebook.com/smlcol / @smlcol
- fb page - body painting / glamour : https://www.facebook.com/smlcol.plus / @smlcol.plus
- to refer to my personal profile (https://www.facebook.com/laurent.cosmic
Please note that most of you identify me on pictures but this is not sufficient even if this is already a good point.
My concern is that you're doing the same with your friends and so, from time to time, I'm lost in 10 of your friends. But the idea is to focus me as photographer - I will so appreciate that my name is shown in description of the picture... This is free of charge for you but make me so happy! Almost that this is a part of my wages.
Any particular hashtag to use?
Yes! please use at least #smlcol
. This hashtag is not used by others so it provides me a certain visibility.
Since a few, I generate hashtags in my publication, and they are most of the time present on the galleries of this site. Feel free to copy and paste them.
