Liège (pronounced /lJɛʒ /Listen, formerly written Liége also pronounced Liége /lje̞ːʒ /or Lèche /ljɛːʃ /in Liège in Dutch: Luik in German: Lüttich in Wallon: Lîdje /Liːtʃ /), also nicknamed ''The city Ardent ”, is a French -speaking city in eastern Belgium. From the 8th to the 16th century, it was the seat of the vast bishopric of Liège, heir to Civitas Tungrorum.
